A lot of the faults I'm called out to fix go back to the day the gate was installed: posts that weren't strong enough, motors too small for the gate, cable runs that let in water, or safety devices that were never fitted. A good installation avoids all of that, and it's the part of the job I take most seriously.

From first call to handover
- Survey. I come out, look at the entrance, the posts, the ground and the power, and talk through what you want.
- Written quote. A clear price with everything included.
- Groundwork. Foundations, motor boxes for underground systems, and ducting for cables.
- Fitting. Gates hung, motors mounted, control board wired and safety devices installed.
- Testing. Forces measured with a calibrated tester to BS EN 12453, and every device checked.
- Handover. I show you how it all works, including the manual release, and leave the manuals and Declaration of Conformity.
Step by step detail is in how electric gate installation works.
What I install
New made-to-measure gates, automation for gates you already have, access control from remotes to video intercoms, and safety devices and accessories like photocells, warning lights and battery backup. See automate existing gates, access control and gate automation accessories.
I fit DEA System for homes and businesses, and Fadini hydraulics for heavy-duty gates.

The rules I work to
Whoever automates a gate is responsible for making it meet the machinery safety rules. In Northern Ireland that means the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008 now, and the EU Machinery Regulation from 20 January 2027 under the Windsor Framework. In practice, every gate I install:
- has the safety devices it needs
- is force tested to BS EN 12453
- has its electrics done to BS 7671
- is CE marked, with a Declaration of Conformity and instructions
More in gate safety and the law and the new Machinery Regulation from January 2027.

Questions people ask me
How long does an installation take?
Automating existing gates is often a day or two. New gates with groundwork take longer, and your quote will say how long.
Do I need a separate electrician?
No. I do the electrical work for the gate system. If your main supply needs work, I'll tell you before you commit.
What paperwork do I get?
A Declaration of Conformity, the manuals and a record of the force test results.
Will you fit gates I bought myself?
If they're well made and suitable for automation, yes. I'll check them first.
